Celebrating Women in Science and Engineering: A Reflection on Achievements and Inspiring Growth
On Tuesday, 14th March, I had the pleasure of attending a special event at Loughborough University dedicated to celebrating the remarkable achievements of Women in Science and Engineering. The event brought together exhibitions, presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, all aimed at highlighting the valuable contributions of women in these fields.

Highlighting Inspiring Voices
We were fortunate to have exceptional speakers who shared their expertise and experiences. Ruth King, the founder of Women in HVACR, emphasized the potential of women in engineering. Karine Lablanc, an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, provided valuable industry insights. Prof. Charlotte Croffie, Pro Vice Chancellor at Loughborough University, demonstrated the institution’s commitment to innovation and gender equality.

Embracing Personal Journeys
The event became even more meaningful as attendees shared their personal stories of growth and triumph. Bayan Khayat Sarama, a current PhD student, and Saziye Dickson, an accomplished MSc graduate and ASHRAE UK Midlands President, inspired us with their resilience and achievements, showing us the impact individuals can make in science and engineering.

Engaging Activities and Meaningful Connections
The celebration of Women in Science and Engineering encouraged active participation. Attendees attended presentations, participated in interactive sessions, and engaged in panel discussions. Through networking opportunities, connections were formed with like-minded individuals, fostering collaborations within the industry.

Looking Towards the Future
The event served as a reminder of the talent and potential within science and engineering. It reinforced our commitment to support and empower women, break barriers, and create an inclusive future. Moving forward, we will continue organizing events and initiatives that drive positive change, promoting diversity and equality.
The celebration of Women in Science and Engineering honoured the achievements of women in these fields. Through shared experiences and connections, it inspired personal and professional growth. Let us champion women, foster innovation, and shape a future where everyone thrives in science and engineering.
