Ofgem Easy Guide to Amendments

Posted on 25 September 2018

Ofgem have just released a very handy guide (Ofgem Easy Guide to Amendments) to making amendments to your existing RHI applications.

Amendments need to be carried out in the following circumstances:

  • Replacing or adding a heat or electricity meter
  • Adding new heat uses
  • Adding an ineligible plant such as a gas or oil boiler
  • Removing an ineligible plant

Remember that Ofgem must be notified within 28 days of making any of the amendments above.

The guidance document takes you through the process required for each of the amendments including which fields to be filled in and what information is required.

One of the most important things is to keep photographs and paperwork for any changes you are making, for example,

  • Photograph the old and new meter readings as soon as possible ensuring the date of the photograph is saved
  • Retain invoices and commissioning paperwork for new boilers or meters
  • Photographs of any additional buried heat mains going in that cannot be photographed later, once trenching is filled in

Other aspects of your original application may need to be changed as part of the amendment such as the heat loss assessment or Independent Metering Report (IRMA).

Remember that you will not be able to claim any periodic payments while the amendment is being reviewed so it’s important to understand how this may affect your cash flow. Meter readings must still be taken during the amendment process on a quarterly basis but they will not be able to be uploaded until the application is live again.

Finally, be aware that amendments can take months to approve rather than weeks. It’s unavoidable but be prepared for the timescales.

If in doubt, engage a professional to undertake the amendment. Infinitas Design has 7 years experience of the non domestic RHI scheme and have successfully carried out new and amended applications for numerous clients. We know what Ofgem require and can very quickly obtain and submit the information needed by Ofgem with minimal involvement from the client. >>Click here to contact us<< or call direct on 07813 069940 to find out how we can help.
